When people ask me what I did over the course of lockdown, I can proudly say that I've perfected the cinnamon bun (it's all in the proving), learnt how to use a sewing machine, and I have also managed to create the ideal working from home wardrobe. Yes, that does consist of a lot of stretchy denim and chunky knitwear, but it might surprise you to know that some of my favourite WFH outfits are dresses.
There is, of course, one big box that any home office frock must tick: it has to have a bit of give. While I don't imagine any of us are reaching for the Hervé Leger, some fabrics and silhouettes can be a little restrictive and uncomfortable so when I go for a dress to wear all day at my desk, I need it to be comfortable. That being said, it also needs to look Zoom appropriate, for internal and external meetings, as well as being ideal for quickly nipping out the house to the shops or opening the door to the postman.
Good news then, as the comfortable dresses—be they knitted, oversized, or simply toasty—are everywhere this season, and strike the perfect balance of being effortless to throw-on but also smart. I'd also recommend a shirred dress as that will also allow you movement but there are also some great shirtdresses that are stretchy, too.
Of course, I've been mindful to select dresses that you won’t mind wearing into your office in real life, whether you’re heading back soon or have plans to later in the year. Keep scrolling to see 30 dresses that are perfect for working from home.
